Do you know that moment?
When you close the last door of your children’s bedrooms at night. They are all tucked in. If you get past the follow few moments without your name being called to inform you of any last minute thoughts that they forgot to tell you in the five hours since they have been home from school, you are free.
Those moments are truly bliss. You consider pouring yourself a nice drink to celebrate the fact you survived this day, maybe with a few bumps and bruises, but, hey, survival is survival. You start thinking about turning on a TV show that includes zero animation or songs that gets stuck in your head for hours.
A show with cops. Hot cops. You deserve that.
Walking back through the house you are smacked in the face with what the reality of you night actually looks like; dishes, toys and laundry (lots of laundry). The only way I will be seeing cops is if the neighbors call for a wellness check, after hearing you screaming outside in frustration. I can also guarantee that the cops will not be hot, you will not get that lucky.
But here is to those few moments when you can finally let out the breath you didn’t know you had been holding. You can reflect back on the day and treasure the moments that were amazing. For example, the five minutes the girls were not fighting and instead you heard laughter coming from their direction, or when you five year old actually ate the dinner you cooked and expressed her enjoyment for your cooking for once in her life.
It’s all about the little things.
Now on to the big things. Laundry.
